Forging the Future welcomes the recent announcement that Midrex will design and supply a direct reduced iron (DRI) facility for U.S. Steel’s Big River Steel works.
This facility will use state-of-the-art technology to produce clean steel, combining natural gas-based DRI with electric arc furnace production.
Midrex, a U.S. company based in Charlotte, North Carolina, will supply the technology for a plant in Osceola, Arkansas, where it will process Minnesota-sourced iron ore, making this a strong example of an all-American steel supply chain. This project will reduce reliance on foreign steel production, reinforce domestic supply chains, and help create well-paying jobs for Americans.
We look forward to production beginning in 2029. Until then, we hope to see similar investments in modern American technologies that strengthen our economic resilience and national security.
